Saturday we attended a picnic at the kids' school hosted by the "Friends of Dulwich" or FOD. It is funny because when I hear FOD I think of "Foreign Object Damage" which was a big acronym and buzzword when working around Navy jets. FOD was any kind of debris on the runway or tarmack that if ingested in the jet engines could cause damage and engine failure. Anyway, I digress.
Dulwich was kind enough to send the school buses out on Saturday afternoon to pick up families from their expat compounds, so our group rode the bus the school. It was a nice option as Saturday is our driver's day off and it is hard to get taxis to venture out to the school location.
The barbeque dinner was good and they even served beer and wine. But the highlight of the event was a parents' tug-of-war competition. Parents from different "houses" competed against one another for bragging rights. The British schools divide the student body into different houses (think Harry Potter) so first the "Mums had a go" then the Dads. Unfortunately, one woman got injured during the game and went to the hospital with a broken big toe. Those mums were ruthless.
Above you can see a picture of the new "Ducks" preschool where Marco and Maria attend class. Also some pictures of our friends Mike, Anna, Mike, and Rob.
Next week is a Chinese national holiday, the moon festival and the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic. We are headed to Hong Kong on Wednesday for a four day visit. Next blog dispatch will be from HK.
